Google apparently plans to rename Chrome OS to ChromeOS

The dear colleagues of 9To5Google came across a code change in the Chromium OS sources that suggests this intention.

In the comment, it says:

Update Chrome OS to ChromeOS (string update)

Branding changes to unify and update Chrome OS to ChromeOS (removing the
space).

This CL also includes changing Chromium OS to ChromiumOS as well.

Chromium OS is also supposed to become ChromiumOS, making sense since Chrome OS is based on it.

Why not just “chromeOS?” That’s what I thought at first when I read that. However, that might be too close to “macOS,” What do you think?

Let’s see how long it takes for this to arrive on our Chromebooks and Google’s web presence. I’m sure it’s a lot of work, and I wonder if it’s done with search & replace in the code? It is probably too late for version 100 – a kind of anniversary. 9To5Google expects version 102, which would come – following the rhythm of 4 weeks per system version – in May 2022.

We Bloggers and YouTubers will also have to adapt some things. That’s just the way it is. 😉

Hey! 😀 I started this blog in 2018. Fitting the blog, I want to describe myself as a true “Google Sheep,” incredibly addicted to travel and open-minded. I like traveling the world and creating digital content on Chrome OS, travel, and mobile work.
